Tell a Friend
I wrote a new song the other night. The hardest song I've done yet, almost metal inspired. I showed my rough recording to Kiko today. It is, in her words, a 'Smash Hit'.
The only issue I have with it, is that it doesn't say much. Lately I've been thinking about my lyrical prowess, my lyrical topics. Which of my songs contain lyrics with a real message, a real purpose? Too often I've been adding lyrics on as an afterthought. You know the mentality, the music is all-important, the lyrics secondary. I'm a Christian artist. My music should have a drive, a drive toward God.
My topics right now circle around love. Whether it's the experience of infatuation or heartbreak, I have written about it. I don't understand why I have this sudden obsession with romance. It could be that I've been listening to Alexz Johnson's songs (her songwriters I admire in a big way), and her love triangles are so complicated they have imprinted on my sub-conscious. Who knows. It's not like I'm in love, or even close.

Lyric of the day is a song I'm loving at the moment, Alexz Johnson of course. It seems I go through phases. Tomorrow I'll be back onto Shiina Ringo. You just wait.

There's me, looking down at my shoes
The one smiling like the sun, that's you
What were you thinking
What was the song inside your head?
There's us going on about a band
Working out how to play our hands
I lay there dreaming
Later all alone in my bed

If I was stupid
Maybe careless
So were you

Not everything is supposed to come true
Some words are best unsaid
Some love is not really love at all
I keep everything I shared with you
And that's enough
There's us.

Freeze frame, I'm not about to cry
It's too late for us to change, why try
I've got a camera
Tucked away inside my heart

If I'm a loser
Or just unlucky
So are you

Not everything is supposed to come true
Some words are best unsaid
Some love is not really love at all
I keep everything I shared with you
And that's enough
There's us.

Somewhere between then and now
I looked away when you said we'd never change
And if you think what might have been
You'll lose today
We've got songs to play

Not everything is supposed to come true
Some words are best unsaid
Some love is not really love at all
I keep everything I shared with you
And that's enough
There's us.
